Kyle and I are partners. We must turn in a completed timeline and journal for each of us tomorrow. Kyle and I are dividing up the work as evenly as possible so that we get the project done together. We have begun to brainstorm ideas, including a list of work, for making the website as interesting as possible. This could include quizzes, games, and bright pictures that show our bacteria, so that we are able to attain a good grade on this project.
Tuesday December 4
Today we started the project, not completely head on though. Kyle and I now realize how serious we must be with this project. The Timeline got finished, with a little bit of pushing from ms. Tucker.
I am having trouble researching and finding information about its gram type and other specifications on the listed approved websites. I fear that the chosen bacteria is a bit out of the ordinary, as I have not been able to find much about it and I will have to speak to ms. Tucker about what I may be doing wrong. We may just have to complete this project relying on free web, and fill out web evaluations for all of the informed websites.
Wednesday, December 5
Today was not a work day in class, but we learned how to cite free web pages and fill out the evaluation to see if the information on the sites is legitimate. This will be helpful, as this is the first project I have had that is able to use free web, seeing as I have not been able to find much on the suggested and approved websites.
Upon speaking to ms. Tucker, I realized that I had the name of the bacteria wrong. The correct name produced more research results for me tonight on the approved websites, but not much. Also, I have found and posted some pictures of our Bacteria.
Thursday December 6
Today was a research day, and Kyle and I got more pictures and definitely some solid resources. The suggested websites dont seem to be much help, but I did find one website that was almost completely devoted to Thermus Aquaticus and where it was first found, in Yellowstone National Park. Kyle posted some interesting facts and I got some good research done.
Even though it was a pain to go to the free web and fill out a website evaluation, it was worth it for all the information, considering it was my first source for the meat of the website.
Friday, December 7
Last night I received call from my swim coach saying that someone was sick and I was the next person in line to go to the swim meet. Today I did not get very much work done until tonight.
Saturday December 8
I realized that I may even have to use news articles because of our bacteria being so obscure. The only web sources there seem to be are articles about Thomas Brock, the discoverer of Thermus Aquaticus.
I will continue to search the free web and suggested websites for information on Thermus Aquaticus that is not related to the Thomas Brock, because he seems to be the only one that has made any major discoveries of it.
Monday December 10
It seems that news articles for sources work pretty well, I found one today. I havent completed the source but I will do it in class tomorrow because it is a work day.
Today I found a whole new concept of thermus aquaticus. the news article I found talked about how certain enzymes found in this bacteria are used for DNA replication because they are resistant to high heat, which other bacteria and enzymes cannot withstand.
Tuesday December 11
Today I came home to work on the website and do some research, and I was suprised to find that Kyle had created a quiz. We had brainstormed ideas for a quiz and things related, such as a game, but never really got around to making it. I was impressed with Kyles work today.
The research days in class really help. I think it is harder to get a project done at home with so much other work going on in other classes, and the research days really help me to get work done.
Wednesday December 12
I realized today that for information on the air requirements, nutrition, structure, etc. of Thermus Aquaticus, I had to broaden my research by typing in the classification of Thermus Aquaticus as the search keyword.
This new approach definitely seems to be working, because I could not find any helpful websites about the specifications and classifications about its structure and such.
Thursday December 13
I am finding more helpful websites on the classifications of thermus aquaticus and even some interesting and amusing pictures. This one particular website I think is a database and looks exactly like wikipedia, but it is not allowed to be edited by the users.
Kyle and I really need to get a move on this project, since it is due this sunday at 5:00.
Friday December 14
With it finally being the weekend, Kyle and I really need to buckle down and get this project finished. At this point, we dont have as much work done on the website as we should have.
I'm starting to think that Kyle is not putting in enough effort as he should be, and I havent seen any changes in the website, besides those of mine, from him.
Saturday December 16
I worked almost half of the day today and got some great research done. I keep checking the Sidebar for recent changes and all I see are mine. I am dissapointed in the amount of work load per person for this project, and I feel Like im doing all of it, since I havent seen recent activity from Kyle in four days.
Upon reading over the whole website, I found today that Kyle pretty much reported that I had not done any work in his earlier journal entries, and this seems very unfair to me, considering that the workload for this project is about 35% 65%.
